This condition is caused by the Ganoderma species of fungi, which invade the wood and lead to the breakdown of the tree’s structural integrity. As the disease progresses, it often produces large, shelf-like fruiting bodies at the base of the tree. Symptoms include a general decline in tree health, with leaves turning yellow or brown and branches dying off. The disease can ultimately lead to tree death, making it a significant concern for forestry and landscaping efforts.
